COMMANDMENT #1: THY ARTIST MUST HAVE A TENT!

If you are just starting out, you can usually get a cheap tent from a Sam’s Club, Costco or wholesale club type retail store for around $100.00. Garage sales and Goodwill stores are also good places to look. There is also the Internet. People who are getting out of the show scene for one reason or another will place ads online or online auction sites. (Don’t forget about shipping! The cost to ship may play a big factor if you don’t live in the area).

What do you do if you don’t have money in the budget for a tent? Another option is you can find a friend, family member or co-worker with a pop-up tent and ask if you can borrow it. (In all honesty, you can’t go wrong having a tent. It’s multifunctional).

The reason for having a tent and why it is SO important is due to Mother Nature. When you are outside all day it provides shade. A tent helps protect your work like a postal worker. They still deliver mail rain, heat, snow, sleet, and hail among the other elements.

*Special Note – Try to get a tent that has zip-up side panels. Trust me on this one!

Ok...so now I have a tent, a couple of tables, and some cheap easels that I bought for $11.00 at an art store on clearance. I am ready to go!

For a few years, I did small shows and farmers markets. At that time, everything fit in the back of a truck. I learned over the next couple of years, we as artists, all start out the same.
